Indoor skiing arrives in Leesburg
Pro-Fit Ski & Mountain Sports in Leesburg is opening an indoor ski simulator next to its Catoctin Circle ski shop.
The indoor ski simulator – think inclined treadmill – will be the first of its kind in the area, and the first to be partnered with a specialty retail shop.
“The upward revolving surface simulates the ski trail that slides underneath you, like a treadmill,” said Nancy Deely, who owns Pro-Fit along with her husband, Brian. “With variable pitch and speed, the slope can be tailored to the ability of the skiers or boarders. A support bar at the bottom of the slope offers stability and confidence for less experienced students. A large mirror at the base of the slope gives you real-time feedback.”
The Deelys say the indoor simulation will help students learn and practice in a fun and safe – and warm – environment.
Brian Deely said they’re also excited to be able to fit skiers for boots “in real time.”
“The consistent surface and controlled environment provides instant feedback and allows the boot-fitter to focus on stance and alignment, addressing pressure points, all within reach of the needed tools. None of this is possible on the mountain,” he said in a prepared statement.
Pricing to use the facility is available through InsideSki.com.
